A Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan completed a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 31 seconds on May 28, 2024, with no human driver. This autonomous lap was achieved using advanced AI and sensor technology, demonstrating the vehicle's capabilities in complex driving environments. The SU7, Xiaomi's first electric vehicle, was equipped with a suite of lidar, radar, and camera sensors to navigate the 12.9-mile (20.8 km) track. The company stated that the autonomous driving system processed real-time data to control steering, acceleration, and braking. This demonstration highlights the potential for AI in autonomous vehicle performance and safety, particularly in challenging conditions like those found at the Nürburgring. The SU7 has been available for purchase in China since March 2024, with pricing starting at approximately $29,800 for the base model.
