Texas Startup Eden Tech Unveils New Desalination Machine

Eden Tech, a startup founded by Hunter Manz in 2020, has unveiled its first full-scale reverse osmosis centrifuge, named Genesis. This new system aims to reinvent desalination by being two to three times more energy efficient than conventional technologies. Manz, inspired by water scarcity issues observed in his youth, developed the reverse osmosis centrifuge (ROC) concept while studying at Utah Tech University. The company has secured $3.3 million in funding from various sources, including Utah Tech, community investors, and venture capital firms. Based in Lockhart, Texas, Eden Tech plans to refine the Genesis model over the next year, scale its production for consumer use, and begin commercial operations. Each Genesis machine is projected to process approximately 144,000 gallons of water daily. Traditional desalination methods face criticism for their high energy consumption and the production of concentrated brine waste. Eden Tech's approach seeks to address these challenges through increased efficiency and by developing new applications for the brine byproduct. Manz stated that the technology offers a dual benefit of producing needed water while also contributing positively to the environment.
