SpeakON Ships MagSafe AI Button for Polished Voice Communication

SpeakON has introduced a new hardware device, the SpeakON AI Voice Button, designed to transform spoken words into polished, actionable text across various applications. Unlike traditional dictation tools that capture raw speech including fillers and false starts, SpeakON's button aims to deliver finished communication. The device functions as an "AI Communicator," drawing inspiration from the Star Trek "Communicator" concept, enabling users to stay connected and productive without needing to be at a dedicated terminal. This product targets professionals such as founders, managers, consultants, and field workers who are time-constrained and need an efficient way to capture ideas and communicate without interrupting their workflow.

The SpeakON button is a compact, magnetic accessory that attaches to the back of an iPhone using MagSafe technology. It measures 58 x 58 x 6 mm and weighs 25 grams. Powering the device is a 220 mAh battery, which SpeakON rates for over 10 hours of continuous use or more than two weeks of standby time. Recharging the battery takes under 1.5 hours via USB-C. The button is equipped with 128 MB of onboard storage and has a stated audio capture range of approximately 60 cm. Each press can continuously record input for up to five minutes. The product package includes a USB-C cable and a magnetic ring for iPhones that do not natively support MagSafe.

A key architectural distinction of the SpeakON button is its integrated microphone, which captures audio independently of the iPhone's system microphone. This design choice offers several advantages. Firstly, it ensures the phone's microphone remains available for other functions such as phone calls, FaceTime, or CarPlay without conflict. Secondly, the SpeakON app does not require continuous background microphone access, a permission that many users are hesitant to grant to voice applications. Furthermore, because the button has its own battery and storage, it can continue to function even when the phone is locked or offline, buffering the audio data on the device and syncing it once a connection is re-established.

SpeakON integrates into the iOS ecosystem as a system-wide keyboard extension. This allows the processed text output to appear directly within any open application, including messaging platforms like Messages. The device's AI capabilities are responsible for cleaning up the captured audio, removing extraneous speech elements, and formatting the text for immediate use. This process aims to eliminate the need for post-dictation editing, streamlining the communication workflow for busy professionals. The company positions this as a significant advancement over existing voice-to-text solutions, which often require manual refinement of the transcribed content before it can be utilized effectively.
