Men More Likely to Consult AI for Pay Bump

Men are more likely than women to consult artificial intelligence tools for advice on salary negotiations and pay raises, according to a new report published on Tuesday. The survey, conducted by AI career strategist Ruth in partnership with The Harris Poll, polled 2,131 workers and found that 63% of men had used AI for pay advice, compared to 42% of women.

When it came to actively negotiating pay, 59% of men indicated they would consult AI on what to ask for in terms of salary or a raise, while 44% of women stated they would do the same. Overall, men expressed greater trust in AI-generated advice, with approximately 57% of men being more inclined to trust AI advice as much as human advice, versus 43% of women.

While seeking work-related advice from AI is common, with 45% of adults reporting they do so, only 33% of survey respondents specifically use AI for pay negotiation advice. The report highlights that this disparity could perpetuate existing biases that have contributed to the gender pay gap and hindered women's ability to negotiate compensation effectively.

Previous research from the Pew Research Center indicated that while men and women now use AI chatbots at similar rates, men still utilized these tools more regularly in the workplace. The Lean In study also showed men were more likely to use AI at work daily, suggesting a persistent gender-based difference in AI adoption and application, particularly concerning career advancement and financial compensation.
