Genspark Open Sources GenOffice AI Office Suite

Genspark has released GenOffice as open-source software under the Apache License 2.0, making it available for macOS and Windows users. The suite is described as an AI-native office application, encompassing a word processor, a spreadsheet program, a presentation editor, and a PDF manipulation tool. GenOffice is built using five Electron applications that share a common engine layer, with AI editing integrated as a core workflow rather than an add-on chat interface. Signed installers are provided for macOS, specifically for Apple Silicon processors, and for Windows, supporting x64 architecture. The current version is identified as 0.4.110. GenOffice is offered free of charge and is entirely ad-free, providing standard editing functionalities without additional restrictions. The source code can be built using Node 20+, npm 10+, and a Rust toolchain for the Sheets sidecar component. However, the software is designated as an Alpha release, and the AI functionality requires a Genspark account, as model calls are proxied through Genspark's services. This architecture is designed to appeal to specific user segments, particularly startups and small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), who can benefit from the absence of license fees and watermarks, along with full fidelity for .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx file formats. Technically, GenOffice ensures byte-preserving round trips for documents, meaning it archives the original .docx file by its hash and does not alter it. The 'docx-engine' component parses the top-level elements of the 'word/document.xml' file into a block tree structure, where each block is associated with a 'docxIndex' and the original document content.
