Volkswagen Unveils Production ID. Cross Electric SUV

Volkswagen officially unveiled the production ID. Cross, an affordable subcompact electric SUV, with a starting price of €28,000 EUR. This new model is positioned as the high-riding counterpart to the recently revealed ID. Polo and is scheduled to arrive in European showrooms in autumn 2026. The ID. Cross is built on the updated MEB+ platform, which also underpins the Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq, aiming to bring distinctive styling and premium features to a competitive market segment.

The exterior design of the ID. Cross features slim lighting, clean body surfacing, and a modern silhouette that draws inspiration from the Mk4 Golf. The vehicle will be offered exclusively with single-motor front-wheel-drive configurations across three power levels. The base variant will feature a 114 hp electric motor paired with a 37 kWh battery pack, providing an estimated WLTP range of 196 miles. A mid-tier option will increase the output to 133 hp using the same battery. The top-tier version will utilize a 208 hp motor and a larger 52 kWh battery pack, achieving a maximum range of 271 miles.

Charging capabilities for the ID. Cross include DC fast-charging, with peak rates of 90 kW for the smaller battery and 105 kW for the larger one. Under ideal conditions, this allows for a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 24 minutes. Volkswagen has also incorporated vehicle-to-load functionality, enabling owners to power external devices directly from the car. The interior design includes updates such as the return of physical controls on the steering wheel and a dedicated 25-liter front trunk, enhancing practicality within its compact dimensions. The cabin offers 475 liters of cargo space behind the rear seats.
