Rivian revealed the exterior design of its 2027 R2 electric SUV on March 7, 2024, showcasing a vehicle intended to be more accessible than its current offerings. The R2 features a design language consistent with the larger R1S and R1T, including Rivian's signature "treehouse" interior concept and a vertically oriented headlight design. The company emphasized the R2's practicality, highlighting its rear tailgate that folds down to create a flat load floor, extending the cargo space significantly. This design choice aims to enhance utility for outdoor activities and general cargo hauling. Rivian also confirmed that the R2 will offer a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration and a tri-motor performance variant, with the latter capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds. The base model is projected to have a range exceeding 300 miles on a single charge. Pricing for the R2 is set to start at $45,000, positioning it as a more affordable option within the electric SUV market. Deliveries are anticipated to begin in the first half of 2026. The company also announced a new charging network, "Rivian Adventure Network," which will expand to include the R2 and will feature over 600 fast-charging stations by the end of 2024.
