US Dollar Bills Feature Trump Signature for 250th Birthday

US dollar-denominated bills featuring President Donald Trump’s signature are being introduced to commemorate the nation’s 250th birthday, as announced by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Bessent reposted a social media message on Saturday from the president, which included an image of a $100 bill bearing Trump’s signature, confirming the initiative. Bessent stated in his message that there is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of the country and President Donald J. Trump than US dollar bills bearing his signature, deeming it appropriate for this historic currency to be issued at the semiquincentennial.

Traditionally, US paper currency displays the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the US Treasurer, not the President. Donald Trump, a former New York businessman, has expressed a desire to imprint his name and influence on various institutions across Washington and the nation. This follows previous instances where the administration sought to associate Trump's name with national entities.

Last year, the administration added Trump’s name to the US Institute of Peace. Additionally, his name was added to the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which he took over at the beginning of his second term. However, a subsequent judicial ruling mandated the removal of his name from the arts complex.

Further examples of this trend include the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport in Florida to honor the president. This initiative to feature Trump's signature on currency marks a significant departure from established norms for US paper money.
