Paul Pelosi Faces Misdemeanor Charges After Napa Hit-and-Run

Paul Pelosi, 86, was involved in a hit-and-run collision on Friday in Yountville, California, that resulted in "major damage" to a legally parked car. According to a news release from the Napa County Sheriff's Department on Saturday, Pelosi was driving his brown convertible when he struck the parked vehicle, briefly stopped, and then left the scene. No injuries were reported.

A witness observed the collision and contacted 911. Sheriff's deputies located Paul Pelosi approximately a quarter of a mile away on a nearby road, with significant damage to the front of his vehicle. Pelosi informed officers that he was aware of hitting something but was uncertain about the specifics of the incident or the cause of the damage. The Napa County Sheriff's Department stated that Paul Pelosi did not have any alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.

The sheriff's department has referred Paul Pelosi to the California Department of Motor Vehicles to assess his driving eligibility, a process described as "common" for elderly drivers. He was not arrested. Given that no physical injuries occurred, the department is recommending misdemeanor charges for fleeing the scene of an accident. A spokesperson for Congresswoman Pelosi did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

This incident follows a 2022 DUI conviction for Paul Pelosi in Napa County, where he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges. He received a sentence of five days in jail and three years of probation, though he served only two days in jail with good conduct credit, leaving one day for a work program. As part of his probation terms, he was also mandated to complete a three-month drinking driver class and install an ignition interlock device.
