This zinc mine needed a truck no one made, so they made it themselves

Zijin Mining designed and built its own 140-ton battery-electric vehicle (BEV) haul truck to meet operational needs at its Wulagen mine in Wuqia County, Xinjiang. The company found that no existing ultra-class electric haul trucks were suitable for the mine's requirements. The custom-designed truck features a substantial 770 kWh swappable battery pack, enabling it to handle the demanding tasks at the mining site. Zijin Mining subsequently manufactured 290 of these specialized trucks, addressing a critical gap in their heavy-duty mining equipment fleet. This initiative highlights the company's proactive approach to overcoming logistical and technological challenges in resource extraction by developing bespoke solutions.
