Thieves Steal Tiny Home, Leaving Kentucky Couple Homeless

Thieves stole a 26-foot tiny home belonging to Lester Hurst and Helena Peters Hurst from their property in Burning Springs, Kentucky, on or around Sunday, May 31. The couple discovered the theft upon returning from an out-of-state work trip, finding muddy tire tracks and their home missing, along with all their personal belongings and sentimental items. The perpetrators cut hitch locks, removed the home from its blocks, and towed it away. They also broke into a tool shop on the property, stealing generators and power tools. Hurst, a part-time handyman and life coach, and his wife had lived in the custom-built tiny home since 2019 and moved it to their 10-acre property last year. While Hurst had heard of tiny homes being stolen, he had not taken specific precautions like placing a tracking device inside. The theft has left the couple homeless and devastated by the loss of irreplaceable sentimental items, including photographs of Helena Peters Hurst's deceased father.
