SpaceXAI Logo Criticized, Even by Grok

Elon Musk's latest venture, SpaceXAI, has introduced a new brand identity that integrates xAI, a company Musk founded in 2023, into SpaceX. This rebranding follows a stock-for-stock merger where SpaceX acquired xAI, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary. Initially, Musk had stated in May that xAI would be dissolved into SpaceX, with its AI products branded under SpaceXAI. The new logo is a combination of the iconic SpaceX wordmark with an "xAI" appendage.
The original SpaceX wordmark was designed by RO Studio, a New Jersey-based firm with a portfolio that includes designs for Tesla. The xAI logo, however, was designed in-house in 2023 by Toby Pohlen, who has a master's degree in computer science but no professional design experience. Pohlen reportedly found it "amusing" that many designers were critical of his initial design, which featured a slightly slanted 'i' inspired by the Parthenon's columns. He later updated the design due to rendering issues at lower resolutions.
It remains unclear who is responsible for the design of the new SpaceXAI logo. Inquiries were made to RO Studio, but no response has been received as of the reporting date. SpaceX was also contacted for comment. The official SpaceXAI account on X (formerly Twitter) announced the change on July 6, 2026, stating, "We are now @SpaceXAI."
