London Design Festival Returns With New Districts and Emerging Talent

The 24th edition of the London Design Festival commenced on September 12, 2026, and will continue through September 20, 2026. This year's festival introduces a revised geographical layout, expanding to include 11 distinct districts, with Soho participating for the first time. The Shoreditch Design Triangle has undergone a rebranding to Shoreditch Design Week and has become the largest component of the festival's program. It features over 60 showrooms and galleries showcasing design work. In Waltham Forest, the William Morris Design Line has been renamed Blackhorse Creates. The festival includes exhibitions hosted at prominent city institutions as well as in buildings that have historically been inaccessible to the public. A significant focus for the festival is on smaller-scale presentations, particularly those resulting from open calls or led by recent graduates. Several galleries that operated from temporary spaces, such as vans or borrowed rooms, just two years prior, now occupy dedicated physical locations. One notable exhibition is "Design Everything x Aram," which follows last year's presentation of furniture from the back of a van. This year, the exhibition utilizes Aram's downstairs gallery, transformed into a simulated young designer's flat. It displays work by 102 emerging practitioners, with each piece addressing a specific limitation, such as space, time, budget, or access. Participation in this exhibition was free for the designers. The exhibition is located at Aram, 110 Drury Lane, WC2B 5SG. Another featured exhibit is "Studio Iron," presented at The Lavery. This is the debut of Isamaya Ffrench's design gallery, which previously launched at Saatchi Yates earlier in 2026. The exhibition at The Lavery explores the intersection of experimentation and craft, featuring a group show with artists including Andu Masebo, Buchanan Studio, Completed Works, Kelly Wearstler x ARCA, Kouros Maghsoudi, Paul Coenen, Barnaby Lewis, and Wretched Flowers. The Lavery is situated at 4 Cromwell Place, SW7 2JE. The "Craft x Tech" exhibition returns to the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) for its second year. This initiative pairs six craft regions from Japan's Tokai area with six international designers. Participating designers include Bethan Laura Wood, who is collaborating with the shibori dyers of Arimatsu Narumi, and Atang Tshikare, working with the braid-makers of Iga Kumihimo. Other designers involved are Philippe Malouin, David Caon, Eugene Kangawa, and Lanzavecchia + Wai. This exhibition is scheduled to run until October 18, 2026.
