Voters Back Housing Act; President Trump Delays Decision

A recent poll conducted by the American Property Owners Alliance indicates that approximately 89% of registered voters support the key provisions of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. The survey, which polled 800 voters between June 25 and June 27, found widespread bipartisan backing for the legislation's goals, which include increasing affordable housing supply, converting vacant buildings into residences, expanding access to small-dollar mortgages, restricting large corporate investors from purchasing single-family homes, and improving housing options for veterans. The housing package, a bipartisan effort, cleared the U.S. House of Representatives on June 23 with a vote of 358-32 before passing the Senate. Speaker Mike Johnson formally sent the bill to the White House on June 29, initiating a 10-day period for President Donald Trump to sign, veto, or allow the bill to become law without his signature, with an expected deadline of July 10, excluding Sundays. However, President Trump delayed a planned signing on June 24, stating he would withhold action until Congress passes the SAVE America Act, which aims to strengthen voter ID requirements. Despite acknowledging the SAVE America Act's low probability of passage, President Trump has not yet signed the ROAD Act into law, reportedly referring to it as "a big yawn" compared to the SAVE America Act. The poll results suggest that supporting the ROAD Act could be a politically advantageous move.
