Substack introduced a new AI content detection feature on October 26, 2023, enabling readers to verify if posts, notes, and replies were written by artificial intelligence. This tool, powered by Pangram, aims to increase transparency on the platform.

Writers using Substack will also have access to their own set of AI-related tools. These include a pre-publish scan that allows them to check their own content for AI generation before it is made public. Additionally, writers can utilize a "How I make this" disclosure feature, providing a space to explain their creative process and the role, if any, AI played in its creation.

The introduction of this feature addresses growing concerns about the prevalence of AI-generated content across various online publishing platforms. By providing a verifiable method for detection, Substack seeks to foster trust between creators and their audiences and maintain the integrity of original human-authored work. The company has not disclosed specific benchmarks for the scanner's accuracy rate.
