Seiko Community Selects Prospex 1965 Diver Design

Seiko has unveiled the Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s Watch Fan-selected Limited Edition, a timepiece whose design was chosen by watch enthusiasts globally through an anniversary voting campaign. This limited edition commemorates the 60th anniversary of Seiko's inaugural diver's watch, which debuted in 1965. The brand engaged its community by allowing fans to vote for one of four dial options, each representing a different aspect of the sea's changing appearance throughout the day. These four seascape concepts were inspired by the progression of time from dawn to dusk and included Sunrise Orange, Daytime Blue, Late Afternoon Green, and Sunset Red. By directly involving its community in the design selection process, Seiko has effectively connected its extensive historical legacy with the input of contemporary horology collectors, resulting in a fan-selected edition that honors both the heritage of the iconic 62MAS model and the shared passion of modern watch enthusiasts.

The fan-voted timepiece incorporates the refined ergonomics of Seiko's updated Prospex 1965 Heritage platform. It features a 40mm stainless steel case, enhanced with a super-hard coating for increased durability. The watch maintains a compact profile with a thickness of 13mm and a lug-to-lug span of 46.4mm. Powering this new model is the automatic in-house Caliber 6R55 movement, which provides a substantial 72-hour, or 3-day, power reserve. In line with professional diving watch standards, it offers a water resistance of 300 meters. For enhanced symmetry and legibility, particularly in low-light conditions, a discreet date window is positioned at the 4:30 mark. The dial features applied indices filled with Lumibrite, a luminous material, ensuring visibility. The watch is protected by a curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal, designed to minimize glare and enhance clarity. The winning design, selected by the community, serves as a celebratory tribute to six decades of Seiko's pioneering craftsmanship in diver watch manufacturing.

This special edition Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s Watch is scheduled for release in October 2026. It will be produced as a limited-edition run, underscoring its exclusivity. The watch is currently available for pre-order on Seiko's boutique website. The pre-order price is set at £1,350 GBP, which is approximately $1,840 USD. The selection process involved a global voting initiative, highlighting Seiko's commitment to incorporating customer preferences into its product development. The Prospex line is Seiko's collection of professional-grade sports watches, known for their durability, precision, and functionality in demanding environments.
