Samsung Launches Dedicated Robotics Division RX

Samsung Electronics officially launched a dedicated robotics division named RX (Robotics eXperience) to consolidate its various robotics projects and accelerate the commercialization of physical AI. This strategic move signals a pivot from exploratory research to full-scale development of humanoid hardware. The new unit reports directly to Samsung CEO TM Roh and is led by Executive Vice President Dongkun Lee, who previously managed robotics strategy for Hyundai and worked at Boston Dynamics. Investors responded positively to the announcement, with Samsung shares rising nearly seven percent following the news.

The establishment of the RX division aims to centralize scattered talent and technology within Samsung, fostering a more cohesive approach to robotics development. By placing this critical initiative under the direct oversight of CEO TM Roh and appointing an experienced leader like Dongkun Lee, Samsung underscores the importance of autonomous hardware as a core component of its future growth strategy. This organizational restructuring is designed to streamline the development process and expedite the journey from concept to market for its robotic products.

To support these ambitious goals, Samsung Electronics has committed a significant investment of 19 trillion won, approximately $13 billion. A substantial portion of this capital will be allocated to building advanced humanoid robot manufacturing facilities and a dedicated data factory located in Gumi, South Korea. Furthermore, the company plans to expand its global reach by establishing specialized research hubs in key international locations, including the United States and China, to leverage global expertise and talent in the field of robotics.
