RoboCop Live-Action Series Ordered by Prime Video

Amazon MGM Studios has officially ordered an eight-episode live-action television series based on the RoboCop franchise, set to premiere on Prime Video. This project has been in development since Amazon's acquisition of MGM in 2022 and represents a significant new live-action endeavor for the iconic property. Peter Ocko, who previously served as showrunner for the series Lodge 49, will write and lead the upcoming science fiction reboot.

The series' narrative will closely mirror the plot of the 1987 original film, directed by Paul Verhoeven. It centers on a large technology conglomerate that persuades a local city to integrate a formidable robot into its police department. This robotic law enforcement officer will be implanted with the consciousness of a fallen officer who was well-regarded by the community. This storyline echoes the role of Omni Consumer Products, the antagonist corporation from the original movie, which exerted control over various sectors including local law enforcement and autonomous robotics.

Horror producer James Wan is attached to executive produce the series through his Blumhouse Atomic Monster production company, with Michael Clear and Rob Hackett also serving as executive producers. To maintain fidelity to the original material, the creative team has enlisted Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, the co-creators and co-writers of the 1987 RoboCop screenplay. Danielle Bozzone will also co-executive produce and oversee the project. James Wan conveyed considerable excitement for the intellectual property, emphasizing the enduring relevance of the original film and its exploration of themes concerning technology, identity, and corporate loyalty.
