Review: Disclosure Day is big on action, light on ideas

Disclosure Day, directed by Steven Spielberg, premiered this week, marking his return to alien-themed science fiction. The film, starring Emily Blunt, is described as a fast-paced entertainer that, while not groundbreaking in its alien narrative, offers a compelling viewing experience. The initial portion of the movie functions as a political thriller, depicting global instability that pushes the world towards World War III. The plot centers on Daniel (Josh O'Connor), a cybersecurity specialist who absconds with alien technology and classified documents from Wardex Corporation, a clandestine US government entity overseen by Noah Scanlon (Colin Firth). Scanlon attempts to apprehend Daniel by taking his girlfriend, Jane (Eve Hewson), hostage. During the planned exchange, Daniel betrays Scanlon, escapes with Jane, and they become fugitives as Daniel is branded a traitor.
