Critics Choice Celebración Honors Latino and Hispanic Stars

The Critics Choice Association has announced its honorees for the sixth annual Celebración of Cinema & Television, a ceremony dedicated to recognizing and spotlighting Latino and Hispanic artistry in film and television. This year's event, formerly known as the Celebration of Latino Cinema and Television, will feature veteran actor John Leguizamo, alongside rising stars James Ortiz and Inde Navarrette, as recipients of prestigious awards.

John Leguizamo, a celebrated actor with a career spanning decades, will receive the Icon Award. His extensive body of work includes critically acclaimed performances in "Carlito's Way," "Moulin Rouge!," and "Encanto." James Ortiz, recognized for his impactful role in "The Bear," will be honored with the Breakthrough Actor Award. Inde Navarrette, known for her compelling performance in "13 Reasons Why," is set to receive the Breakthrough Actress Award. These awards acknowledge their significant contributions and emerging talent within the industry.

In addition to individual acting honors, the Critics Choice Association will also present the Visionary Award to director and producer Robert Rodriguez, a filmmaker renowned for his distinctive style and contributions to the action and horror genres, with notable works such as "Desperado," "From Dusk till Dawn," and the "Spy Kids" franchise. The Legacy Award will be bestowed upon the acclaimed actress Rita Moreno, a EGOT winner whose career has left an indelible mark on Hollywood, including her iconic role in "West Side Story."

The Celebración of Cinema & Television also recognizes outstanding directorial and producing achievements. The award for Best Director will be presented to Sofia Alvarez for "The Long Game," a film that has garnered attention for its compelling narrative and direction. The award for Best Film will be given to "The Long Game," acknowledging its overall excellence in storytelling and production. Furthermore, the award for Best Series will be presented to "Gordita Chronicles," a series celebrated for its authentic portrayal of a Dominican family's experience in 1980s America. The ceremony aims to provide a platform for Latino and Hispanic voices and stories, fostering greater representation and appreciation within the entertainment landscape. The event is scheduled to take place on December 3, 2023, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
