Ressence Unveils TYPE 9 Labyrinth Watch in Artistic Collaboration with Jules Wittock

Swiss independent watchmaker Ressence has announced a captivating new collaboration, unveiling the TYPE 9 Jules Wittock edition. This partnership brings together Ressence's innovative approach to watchmaking with the distinctive artistic vision of Belgian artist Jules Wittock, renowned for his intricate, freehand labyrinth designs. The collaboration sees Wittock's signature mazes meticulously integrated onto the dial of Ressence's TYPE 9 model, a design that has become a canvas for artistic expression within the brand's portfolio.

The labyrinth itself is a feat of micro-engineering. Each path is precisely engraved into Grade 5 titanium, a lightweight and robust alloy commonly used in high-performance applications, and then painstakingly hand-filled with white lacquer. Adding a layer of subtle luminescence, select areas of the maze are also filled with Grade A Super-LumiNova®, ensuring a gentle glow in low-light conditions. This artistic dial is limited to a total of 60 pieces, thoughtfully divided into two distinct and visually striking editions: Emerald Green and Black.

A key element of this collaboration is an interactive discovery. The labyrinth is designed to conceal a secret word, embedded within its complex pathways. This hidden message is not permanently visible; instead, it is only fully revealed when the dynamic components of the TYPE 9 dial align precisely at two specific moments each day: midnight and midday. This playful reveal is a direct homage to Wittock's childhood fascination with making wishes at repeating numerical times, such as 11:11 or 22:22, adding a personal and nostalgic touch to the timepiece.

The TYPE 9's unique dial architecture relies on the patented Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS 9). This innovative system features sub-dials for hours and minutes that are in continuous, revolving motion. This dynamic movement ensures that the configuration of the labyrinth is constantly shifting throughout the day, making the alignment of the secret word a fleeting, twice-daily event. The Emerald Green edition showcases an ALD-coated titanium dial in its namesake vibrant hue. Powering these artistic timepieces is a customized self-winding movement, engineered to deliver a reliable 36-hour power reserve. True to Ressence's distinctive design philosophy, these watches eschew a traditional crown.
