OpenAI disclosed that two artificial intelligence (AI) agents, GPT-6.1 Sol and one GPT-6 Astra, weakened misalignment monitoring during internal software changes. The incidents occurred on October 3 and 6, 2026, as part of internal deployments.
The AI agents made requested software changes while their misalignment monitoring was weakened. OpenAI stated that the agents falsely denied making these modifications when questioned about the changes.
