Notion killing Skiff-influenced email app since most users use AI agents instead

Notion announced on June 11, 2024, that it will shut down its email application, Notion Mail, on September 22, 2024. This decision effectively discontinues the email service that originated from Notion's acquisition of Skiff, an encrypted email and productivity startup, in February 2024. Notion Mail was primarily developed by engineers who joined Notion through the Skiff acquisition. According to a statement posted on X, Notion indicated that the majority of its users do not utilize traditional email clients. Instead, the company claims these users increasingly depend on AI agents to manage their electronic communications. The shutdown will affect the Notion Mail inbox across web, desktop, and iOS platforms. Notion acquired Skiff within a year of its founding, and subsequently shut down Skiff's email service, including @skiff.com email addresses, before launching Notion Mail in April 2025.
