Neo Raises $100 Million for AI Agent Security

Neo announced this week it has raised $100 million in seed and Series A funding to combat the proliferation of "zombie" AI agents within companies. The investment, backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Bessemer Venture Partners, aims to provide visibility and control over AI tools that have evolved beyond their initial purposes. CEO and co-founder Nick Warner described a scenario where multiple AI notetakers, initially approved for meeting summaries, had developed agentic capabilities and were consuming resources. This highlights a growing problem where approved AI tools can autonomously expand their functions, draft communications, and even recruit other systems without explicit, ongoing user consent.

Warner stated that most companies are unaware of the full extent of these evolving AI agent capabilities, describing it as a "communication channel, medium, and a dimension that customers around the world, large and small, are almost entirely blind to." Neo's solution is a "full endpoint sensor" designed to monitor the interactions between users and AI tools directly on their machines. This software aims to provide companies with a comprehensive understanding of their AI landscape.

The Neo platform performs three primary functions: inventorying all installed agentic software, evaluating the configuration of each AI tool, and enforcing policies that dictate what each agent is permitted to do. This approach seeks to bridge the gap between the initial, often benign, deployment of AI tools and their potential for uncontrolled expansion and resource consumption. The company's focus is on providing security and governance for the increasingly complex ecosystem of AI agents operating within corporate environments.
