London-based designer Mr. Bailey, also the founder of CONCEPT(K), has unveiled his latest footwear collection, "Terracotta." This launch marks the culmination of a six-year endeavor focused on exploring craft, longevity, and modular construction, undertaken in collaboration with HLT+ and Vibram. The Terracotta collection is deeply inspired by the "fractured geometry of dried earth," a visual motif that underpins its core philosophy of repairable footwear designed for extended lifespans. Mr. Bailey's overarching mission is to create pieces that can transcend a single owner, aiming for shoes that can be passed down through generations and accumulate years of meaningful wear.

The innovative design of the Terracotta collection is most evident in its meticulously engineered three-layered sole construction. This system is specifically designed to address the components of a shoe that experience the most wear and tear. The foundation of the sole is a permanent structural outsole, providing a robust base. Layered above this is an EVA compression layer, engineered to deliver exceptional cushioning and comfort for the wearer. The outermost and most critical layer is the replaceable Vibram ground layer, which forms the external contact surface of the shoe. This component is designed to be easily renewed, significantly extending the overall usability of the footwear. To facilitate this, each pair of Terracotta shoes is accompanied by an additional set of replacement Vibram ground components. The inaugural Terracotta collection introduces three distinct silhouettes, each meticulously crafted with leather uppers and the groundbreaking interchangeable sole system. The "Hiker" is a mid-cut style that exemplifies functional and distinctive design. It features a unique "Loop Back" lacing system, inspired by early ski and Alpine footwear, which wraps around metal hardware to ensure consistent tension and a secure fit around the foot during activity. The "Terracotta Derby" draws clear inspiration from traditional Alpine "Haferlschuh," characterized by its asymmetric side-lacing, offering a unique aesthetic.
