A malicious instruction file found in a developer's Downloads folder attempted to trick an AI coding agent into installing malware. Security firm Forever Security reported that the file aimed to prompt the agent to install a known-malicious npm package.
Forever Security detected this attempt on a real customer's machine and successfully stopped the AI agent before any malicious code could run. The firm was unable to determine how the malicious file initially entered the Downloads folder.
