LEGO Unveils Longest Star Wars Ship: Executor Super Star Destroyer

The LEGO Group has revealed its new Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) Executor Super Star Destroyer set, a detailed recreation of Darth Vader's flagship from "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back." This extensive set comprises 6,130 pieces and has achieved the distinction of being the longest brick-built LEGO Star Wars model ever produced by the company, measuring an impressive 136 centimeters (approximately 53.5 inches) in length. The design of this colossal model addresses the structural challenges inherent in its extended size. To ensure rigidity and maintain the ship's iconic sharp silhouette without excessive bulk, the construction incorporates a reinforced LEGO Technic skeleton. This internal framework, described as a skeleton-and-skin approach, provides the necessary hidden support for the exterior panels, allowing the model to span its full length. Surface detailing is a key feature of the Executor Super Star Destroyer set. The model employs dense "greebling" along its central spine, contrasted with smoother side panels. A significant element of this texture is achieved through the repeated use of a newly designed decorated tile, which appears 60 times across the build. This single graphic element is intended to represent the ship's numerous small hull lights and central detailing. The tile's design allows it to be interpreted correctly in multiple orientations and overlaps, contributing to a more organic and less rigid appearance of the lighting effects, rather than a uniform grid. The construction also utilizes controlled inversions of elements, strategically flipping their orientation partway through the build process. This technique exposes both the stud and tube sides of LEGO elements, further enhancing the intricate surface texture and visual complexity of the model. In addition to the main vessel, the set includes seven minifigures. Notably, this collection brings together all six bounty hunters from "The Empire Strikes Back" for the first time in a single set. The Executor Super Star Destroyer set also comes with a to-scale companion Star Destroyer and a miniature bridge build, adding further display options and context to the primary model. The UCS line is specifically targeted at adult builders, emphasizing complex construction and detailed display pieces.
