Lacoste Presents SS27 Collection Inspired by Tennis Court Aesthetics

Lacoste unveiled its Spring/Summer 2027 collection during Paris Fashion Week, with the runway show taking place at the iconic Court Philippe-Chatrier. The set design for the event was a direct homage to the raw beauty and industrial processes associated with the creation of tennis courts, specifically referencing the earthy materials, their rich textures and tones, and the machinery used in their production. The entire show space was enveloped in the visual theme of rolling earth, mirroring the signature red clay of the courts. This thematic influence extended to the guest seating, which also evoked the appearance of clay factories, while the runway itself, traversing this "demanding terrain," underscored the collection's central exploration of speed. Pelagia Kolotouros, Lacoste's Creative Director, introduced a new creative vision for the Spring/Summer 2027 season, aiming to redefine tennis apparel. The collection moves beyond the confines of traditional uniforms, positioning them as a canvas for individual expression. This philosophy is encapsulated in the season's core theme, "Dress Code: Beyond White." Kolotouros envisions the tennis court as a dynamic space where boundaries are fluid and constant motion is key. The designs acknowledge the physical realities of the sport, such as clay dust settling on garment hems and sweat being a mark of effort and achievement. These traces, once considered imperfections, are now celebrated as indicators of accomplishment and form the foundational design language for the season. The collection deliberately departs from pristine white uniforms, instead embracing garments that visibly bear the vibrant marks of intense athletic exertion. The clothing is engineered to move harmoniously with the body, offering a silhouette that skims the form without impeding movement. Every detail, from the fabric's drape to the court's painted lines and the steady rhythm of a breath, is considered significant in the focused moments before a serve. This collection actively challenges the rigid structures and hierarchies traditionally associated with preppy style. To achieve a softer, more fluid energy, cottons are subjected to garment dyeing and enzyme washing, which breaks down stiff structures. Tropical wools are deconstructed to create a relaxed and supple feel, while washed silks are treated to retain their natural, raw texture, shedding any formal stiffness. Fine jersey knits incorporate delicate perforations to enhance breathability and facilitate greater freedom of movement.
