Jensen Huang Gifts Vanderbilt $75 Million for Art College

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and his wife, Lori, have committed a $75 million donation to Vanderbilt University, intended to establish the Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang College of Art, Architecture and Design. This gift aims to create a hub for creatives, integrating advanced technology with art and architecture through studio practice and design labs, while also fostering business and tech fluency among students. The donation is envisioned as a catalyst, having already inspired over $25 million in additional contributions, bringing the total investment to more than $100 million. Huang, whose net worth is estimated at $172 billion and leads a company valued at approximately $5 trillion in the AI chip sector, articulated his philosophy that "Technology expands what we can build. Art and design determine why we build it." This philanthropic move follows a previous donation of an iconic leather jacket that raised nearly $1 million for the Edge Institute, a nonprofit focused on interdisciplinary collaboration in tech, science, and culture. The new college will be situated on Vanderbilt's San Francisco campus, which is taking over the former site of the California College of the Arts (CCA). CCA, a 119-year-old institution, is set to graduate its final class in 2027 due to declining enrollment and a financial deficit. Huang had previously supported CCA before its closure. His total philanthropic contributions to CCA and Vanderbilt now approach $97.5 million, with the Vanderbilt gift representing his largest single donation to a university.
