I’m relieved Siri AI isn’t trying to be a health coach

Apple announced the integration of generative AI features into its operating systems during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10, 2024. These new capabilities, branded as Apple Intelligence, will be incorporated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. The company emphasized that these AI features will prioritize user privacy, processing most requests on-device and utilizing a "Private Cloud Compute" for more complex tasks, which Apple states will not store user data. Key functionalities include enhanced writing tools, image generation, and a more capable Siri. Siri, in particular, will undergo a significant overhaul, gaining the ability to understand context across different applications and perform actions within them, such as sending a specific message or making a reservation. Apple also revealed partnerships with OpenAI, integrating ChatGPT into its devices for more complex queries when Apple Intelligence cannot provide an answer. This integration will allow users to ask ChatGPT questions without leaving their current application, with options to share queries with ChatGPT and have its responses shown to the user. The company highlighted that user permission will be sought before sending any queries to ChatGPT, and personal data will not be shared with OpenAI. The initial rollout of Apple Intelligence will be available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, as well as all iPad and Mac models with M1 chips or later, with a beta version expected later this year. The company aims to provide a more personalized and intuitive user experience through these AI advancements.
