South Korean lighting studio ILKW (ILKWANG Lighting) has introduced the SNOWMAN12 Portable Lamp, an evolution of its popular SNOWMAN series. This new fixture retains the whimsical, geometric aesthetic of its predecessors while incorporating significant design and functional upgrades. The SNOWMAN12 is characterized by a bolder, more pronounced form factor, most notably its expanded shade, which now measures 12cm in diameter. This larger shade necessitated a more substantial base, leading to the integration of a "balloon-like base plate" to ensure overall balance, as explained by Creative Director Sunman Kwon. The lamp's body features a distinctive two-tone design, utilizing contrasting materials and colors to create a visually striking product that feels both playful and architectural. Beyond its updated aesthetics, the SNOWMAN12 prioritizes portability and extended use with a significantly improved battery system. According to Minhyuk Cho, Senior Manager of Development at ILKW, the new model offers up to 260 hours of illumination on a single charge. This represents a substantial enhancement in battery performance and light output compared to the brand's previous portable lighting products, enabling "longer lasting, brighter shining, and freer use." The SNOWMAN12 is priced at 100,000 Korean Won, which is approximately $71 USD. It is currently available for purchase through ILKW's official online store and select international retailers. The SNOWMAN series is known for its distinctive, snowman-like silhouette, which combines a curved stem with a rounded top, often interpreted as a lampshade.
