Testing Unbound Merino's travel-ready clothing line demonstrated the effectiveness of merino wool for simplifying carry-on-only travel. Over a two-month period, the author found that a few key pieces could be worn across a wide range of activities and climates without requiring frequent washing or showing significant wear.

The author tested three specific items: the Women’s Merino Travel Pants in black, the Women’s Merino Crew Neck Tee in navy, and the Women’s Compact Travel Hoodie in navy. These garments were subjected to diverse conditions, including hiking in snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains and navigating Seoul in 80-degree Fahrenheit heat, in addition to enduring a 16-hour flight.

A significant finding was the minimal wrinkling of the merino wool items. Unlike typical "wrinkle-free" fabrics that require immediate hanging, these pieces maintained their appearance even after being worn and sat in. This resilience to wrinkling was observed even on an eight-year-old merino wool t-shirt from the same brand, which showed only minor wrinkles upon being rediscovered and worn.

The author's experience suggests that merino wool's properties, such as its odor resistance and temperature regulation, make it an ideal material for travelers seeking to pack light. The ability to wear the same outfits repeatedly without noticeable issues or the need for frequent laundering supports the concept of a streamlined, carry-on-only travel wardrobe. This discovery has led the author to consider merino wool as a primary component for stylish and practical travel attire.
