How to turn off AI in your Google Docs

Google Docs introduced a "write with Gemini" feature that generates text suggestions, but users can disable these AI prompts. To turn off the feature, users must navigate to the "Tools" menu within Google Docs. From the "Tools" menu, select "Preferences." In the Preferences window, users will find a "General" tab. Within the "General" tab, there is an option labeled "Show smart compose." Unchecking the "Show smart compose" box will disable the AI-powered writing suggestions, including the "write with Gemini" pop-ups. This action prevents the AI from offering unsolicited text completions or content generation prompts while a user is typing. The "smart compose" functionality is distinct from other AI features that might be present in Google Workspace.
