HKSTP and Orange Terry Launch 25th Anniversary Xiangqi Set

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), in collaboration with local multimedia creator Orange Terry, has unveiled a limited-edition xiangqi set named 'The Next Move' to commemorate its 25th anniversary. This initiative aligns with HKSTP's core philosophy, “Innovation. Next by Nature.,” aiming to honor the innovators within its ecosystem and inspire forward-thinking by exploring new possibilities. The xiangqi set is conceptualized as a contemporary cultural artifact designed to foster connections among individuals from diverse backgrounds and encourage future-oriented perspectives. Since its establishment in 2001, HKSTP has been dedicated to cultivating a robust innovation and technology ecosystem in Hong Kong. To date, it has successfully brought together over 2,600 technology companies and 17,000 research professionals, and has played a pivotal role in nurturing 14 unicorn companies. The 'The Next Move' xiangqi set utilizes the popular strategy-based game as a symbolic representation of HKSTP's 25-year journey in ecosystem development. This journey is characterized by the establishment of clear objectives, the promotion of close collaboration, and the application of strategic foresight. Orange Terry shared that his design for the xiangqi set was deeply inspired by the everyday warmth and vibrancy of Hong Kong's local neighborhoods. He elaborated in a documentary interview that his primary inspiration stemmed from observing neighborhood shopkeepers opening their premises for business, a scene rich with interaction and conversation. For Terry, the act of raising and lowering a metal shop gate signifies more than just the daily commencement and conclusion of business; it represents the initiation of engagement and the beginning of new opportunities. This sentiment is woven into the design of the xiangqi set, aiming to evoke a similar sense of connection and strategic initiation.
