Ford Recalls 565,000 Broncos Over Fire Risk

Ford Motor Company issued a recall for approximately 565,000 Bronco and Bronco Raptor sport utility vehicles on November 15, 2023, citing a defect in the wiring harness that poses a fire risk. This action marks Ford's second safety recall within a week, following a previous recall of 1.9 million vehicles. The defect, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), involves a wiring harness that "may create heat or spark, resulting in fire." The specific issue relates to the engine wiring harness, which could corrode and potentially lead to a fire, even when the vehicle is not in operation. Ford has stated that owners should park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the repair is completed. The recall covers Bronco models manufactured between 2021 and 2023, and Bronco Raptor models from 2022 and 2023. Ford estimates that approximately 1% of the recalled vehicles will exhibit the defect. Dealers will be instructed to inspect the engine wiring harness and replace it if necessary, free of charge to the customer. This recall is part of a broader trend of increased vehicle recalls due to safety concerns, with Ford having already recalled nearly 2 million vehicles in November alone. The company has not yet announced a specific remedy date for owners, but expects to notify them by mail starting January 22, 2024. The automaker is also offering a remedy for a separate recall involving potential brake fluid leaks in certain F-150 trucks, issued earlier in the week.
