Ford Fathom: Affordable Electric Truck Unveiled with $28,350 Starting Price

Ford Motor Company has officially unveiled the name and starting price for its highly anticipated affordable midsize electric truck, the Ford Fathom. This strategic move by Ford, a legacy automaker with a long history in truck manufacturing, aims to address several key market dynamics. Firstly, it serves as a direct response to the growing segment of ultra-affordable electric vehicles (EVs) originating from China, which are increasingly challenging established players. The Fathom's Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is set at $28,350, a figure that notably excludes destination and delivery fees, which will add an additional $1,595. This pricing strategy places the Fathom comfortably below the $30,000 threshold that Ford had previously indicated for this model, underscoring its commitment to affordability. For context, Ford's existing electric truck offering, the F-150 Lightning, had a significantly higher starting price of $54,995 for the 2024 model year, with its production scheduled to cease at the end of 2025. The broader automotive market reflects the cost challenges, with the average price of a new car in May 2026 reaching $49,220, according to data from Kelley Blue Book. Kay Hart, the general manager for Ford Model E, the company's dedicated division for electric vehicles, expressed strong confidence in the Fathom's pricing, asserting that it "really is in the heart of the affordable market." Key features include bi-directional charging capabilities, allowing the vehicle to power external devices or even a home. BlueCruise is designed to function on approximately 130,000 miles of designated, pre-mapped highways across the United States, referred to by Ford as "Blue Zones."
