Ford Recalls Over 565,000 Broncos for Fire Risk

Ford has initiated a significant safety recall encompassing 565,911 Bronco and Bronco Raptor vehicles manufactured between the 2021 and 2026 model years. The recall, detailed in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), addresses a critical defect in the engine bay wiring harness. This harness is reported to lack sufficient abrasion protection, a deficiency that can lead to the wires wearing down as they rub against other engine components. Such wear can expose the wiring, creating a risk of short circuits, excessive heat generation, or sparks within the engine compartment, thereby posing a substantial engine fire hazard. Drivers experiencing this issue might notice warning signs including smoke emanating from the cabin air vents, visible flames near the passenger side of the engine, or specific warning messages displayed on the vehicle's digital cluster. Ford has documented 15 reported incidents associated with this defect across both standard Bronco and Bronco Raptor models. The automaker estimates that approximately one percent of the vehicles included in this recall population are likely to contain the actual wiring harness defect. To rectify the problem, Ford dealerships will perform a free repair. This service involves the installation of convolute and abrasion tape to reinforce the affected wiring harness, enhancing its durability and preventing further wear. Ford plans to officially notify owners of the affected vehicles by mail, with notification letters scheduled to be sent between August 24 and August 28, 2026.
