Ford Recalls Over 42,000 Mustang Mach-E EVs
Ford is recalling approximately 42,700 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles globally. The recall addresses a potential issue with the rear axle differential unit, which may fracture. According to a defect information report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on March 14, 2024, the fracture could lead to a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. This issue affects Mach-E vehicles manufactured between May 2020 and February 2024.
Ford has identified that the differential unit's internal components may not have been manufactured to specification, leading to potential fracturing over time. The company stated that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this specific defect. However, as a precautionary measure, Ford is advising owners to avoid driving their vehicles if they notice any unusual noises or experience a loss of power. Dealers will be instructed to inspect the differential unit and replace it if necessary, free of charge to the customer.
This recall follows previous safety campaigns for the Mustang Mach-E, including one in February 2024 that involved over 46,000 vehicles due to a potential issue with the battery contactors. Another recall in December 2023 addressed a software glitch that could cause the windshield defroster to malfunction. Ford has been actively working to address manufacturing and software concerns across its electric vehicle lineup to ensure customer safety and product reliability.
