Elisha Cuthbert Reveals Why She Quit Hollywood for Years To Stay Home With Her Kids: ‘I Didn’t Want To Be on Set’

Elisha Cuthbert stepped away from her Hollywood career at its peak to focus on her children, stating she "didn't want to be on set" during her hiatus. The Canadian actress, known for "The Girl Next Door," recently returned to acting with a leading role in the Prime Video series "Every Year After," which premiered on June 10. This marks her first major project since starring in Allan Ungar's 2022 crime film "Bandit." Cuthbert, who has two children with her husband, former NHL player Dion Phaneuf, explained on the "Today" show that the demands of working while raising her first child prompted her decision to prioritize family time after the birth of her second child. She felt a strong desire to be present at home and cherish every moment with her children, daughter Zaphire (born 2017) and son Fable (born 2022). Now that her children are older and attending school full-time, Cuthbert feels she has the necessary space, energy, and emotional capacity to re-engage with her acting career. In "Every Year After," she portrays Sue, the mother of characters played by Michael Bradway and Matt Cornett.
