Ed Curtis Collaborates With evian® on Limited-Edition Bottle Bags
London-based artist Ed Curtis has partnered with evian® for a special collaboration, designing limited-edition bottle bags that celebrate the brand's 200th anniversary. This project marks a significant shift in Curtis's artistic approach, where he is now embracing a less controlled method, allowing materials to guide the creative process and uncover new discoveries.
Curtis, known for his large-scale installations and clothing line designs, is joined by British artists Hattie Stewart and Diana al-Shammari in this venture. His contribution to the evian® collaboration pays homage to the brand's long-standing association with Wimbledon by exploring tennis iconography. Curtis described the project as a "breakthrough moment" in his recent work, highlighting his evolving artistic practice.
Previously, Curtis's art, including a life-sized recreation of his teenage bedroom in 2023 and a project with stylist Clifford Jago, demonstrated a deliberate and intentional approach. However, his current method involves layering fabric pieces without pre-cut shapes, introducing an element of uncertainty that leads to unique outcomes. He explained that this process requires continuous layering until the composition feels complete, sometimes achieving the desired result rapidly.
The collaboration with evian® allows Curtis to further explore this new, less prescriptive artistic direction, moving from cutting out shapes to layering them directly. This shift emphasizes the emergent qualities of the materials and the unpredictable nature of the creative process, a departure from his earlier, more meticulously planned works.
