Homebuyer Finds 3 Bodies in Foreclosed Connecticut House

Edward Marchion discovered three deceased individuals inside a four-bedroom, 3-bathroom home in Burlington, Connecticut, which he purchased for $525,000 through a foreclosure auction earlier this summer. The 2,800-square-foot property, listed with amenities including a hot tub, patio, and deck, was acquired by Marchion after he placed the winning bid. The median listing price in the area is $699,900, making the purchase appear to be a significant deal.

Upon touring the property after the auction, Marchion encountered the grim discovery. Connecticut State Police have identified two of the deceased as Sally Anne Cash, 54, and her adult son Brian Cash, 22. Investigators suspect the third individual may be Sally Anne's husband, Paul Cash. While the cause of death remains undetermined, authorities do not believe the incidents are linked to a broader criminal pattern. The Cash family were the previous owners, having bought the home in 2019 for $535,000 and securing a $385,000 mortgage.

Court records indicate that the Cash family had not made mortgage payments since December 2024, initiating foreclosure proceedings in August 2025. The discovery of the bodies has raised questions about the validity of these proceedings. Authorities are investigating whether the deaths occurred before the foreclosure process began. If the family was deceased prior to the foreclosure, the proceedings could be deemed "defective," potentially granting legal standing to the Cash family heirs to settle debts and reclaim ownership of the property. Autopsies are currently being conducted to ascertain the time and cause of death.
