Blancpain Launches 19mm Spherical Lady B Watch

Blancpain has unveiled the Lady B, a new mechanical timepiece designed to commemorate the 70th anniversary of its iconic Ladybird collection. This miniature watch draws inspiration from the original 1956 Ladybird Bullet, a model distinguished by its exceptionally small, round case and the R55 movement, which was the world's smallest series-produced round mechanical movement at the time. The Lady B itself features a spherical case measuring 19mm in diameter and 13.2mm in thickness, occupying a total volume of just 2.9 cubic centimeters. This compact design emphasizes jewelry-like proportions while maintaining a sophisticated mechanical heart. The watch case incorporates an integrated lugless passage, allowing a double-tour calf leather strap to glide seamlessly. This strap is available in six distinct color options: white, light beige, dark beige, burgundy, fuchsia purple, and classic blue, offering versatility in styling. The dial of the Lady B is opaline, characterized by applied gold stick indices and polished hands, further enhanced by a mirror-like polished rehaut that adds depth and visual interest to its sculptural form. Despite its delicate appearance, the Lady B is powered by Blancpain's automatic Manufacture caliber 615. This movement is a testament to the brand's commitment to mechanical miniaturization, measuring 15.7mm in width and composed of 180 components and 29 jewels. It features a silicon balance spring, operates at a frequency of 3 Hz, and provides a power reserve of 38 hours. The technical craftsmanship extends to the case's construction, which is divided into two parts and meticulously hand-finished with a combination of polished, satin-finished, and micro-blasted surfaces. The internal surfaces of the integrated strap passage are micro-blasted, with its edges also finished by hand. Both the case and the strap passage are designed to be water-resistant up to 30 meters. The Lady B is not a limited edition, ensuring broader availability for enthusiasts. The stainless steel variant of the Lady B is priced at $12,600 USD. The Ladybird collection, initiated under the leadership of Betty Fiechter, the first woman to head a Swiss watch Manufacture, has a long history of creating exceptionally small and elegant timepieces, a legacy that the new Lady B continues with its advanced miniaturization and refined aesthetic.
