Balenciaga Unveils Spring 2027 Exploring the Concept of "Unsized"
Balenciaga launched its Spring 2027 collection, named "Unsized – A Lightness of Being," on April 15, 2024, exploring a philosophical concept of "unsized" clothing. Designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, the collection reinterprets the house's couture identity, focusing on the human body as the foundation for garment creation. Instead of rigid tailoring, the pieces feature a light architecture adjusted with functional ribbons, creating dynamic and uninhibited forms. Innovative materials, including featherweight techno taffeta, are utilized to ensure entire multi-layered ensembles weigh less than one kilogram. The collection intentionally blurs traditional garment typologies, juxtaposing casual elements like jeans with evening gowns and equipping structured shirts with train elements. Formal evening wear adopts the relaxed aesthetic of t-shirts, and accessories, including jewelry, are designed to functionally hold volume against the body. The lookbook was photographed by Robin Galiegue at Balenciaga's historic address at 10 avenue George V, reflecting an evolution of approaches established by Cristóbal Balenciaga.
