ASICS and Camiel Fortgens Reconstruct GEL-CUMULUS 16

ASICS SportStyle has partnered with designer Camiel Fortgens for its inaugural Crafts for Mind project, reinterpreting the GEL-CUMULUS 16 running shoe. This collaboration focuses on a philosophy of trial-and-error craftsmanship and intentional imperfections, merging ASICS' technical footwear heritage with a raw, hand-crafted aesthetic. The project transforms the recognizable performance running silhouette into two distinct new forms: a Mary Jane-inspired shoe and a VELCRO-fastened model. Both designs draw inspiration from the straightforwardness of children's footwear, incorporating layered leather patches, irregular stitching, and hand-cut overlays that complement ASICS' characteristic side stripes. The collection is presented in green and brown colorways, showcasing Fortgens' signature unpolished design ethos while preserving the fundamental technical structure of the original GEL-CUMULUS 16. The Crafts for Mind initiative is a non-profit program rooted in ASICS' Sound Mind, Sound Body philosophy, aiming to support mental well-being through creative expression. A portion of the revenue generated from this specific product release will be directed to the FFort Foundation. This foundation provides support to young adults through art and storytelling initiatives, particularly for those undergoing treatment for cancer. The campaign accompanying this collection was captured in Amsterdam by filmmaker Patrick Louwerse and photographer Pieter Numan. Their work documents various everyday urban gestures observed throughout the city, providing a visual context for the collaboration. The green versions of the Camiel Fortgens x ASICS SportStyle GEL-CUMULUS™ 16 are scheduled to be released on September 24, 2026. This initial launch will take place at Tillatec in Amsterdam. Subsequently, the brown colorways are slated for an October 2026 release. These brown pairs will be available exclusively at Dover Street Market London and the Camiel Fortgens flagship store, which is also located in Amsterdam.
