With midterm elections approaching and a resurgence in gas prices, Tehran reportedly perceives leverage within the U.S. electoral cycle. An Iranian diplomat communicated to the Wall Street Journal that the Iranian regime is prepared to capitalize on President Trump's political vulnerabilities and would consider preemptive strikes if diplomatic negotiations falter. This assertive posture was evident in recent unprovoked attacks launched by Iran against U.S. bases, which U.S. Central Command described as an "attempted surprise attack."
