Apple’s best AI idea looks a lot like vibe coding
Apple announced its new AI features, branded as Apple Intelligence, at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10, 2024, aiming to integrate AI across its operating systems including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. A key component of Apple Intelligence is "Vibe," a system designed to understand user intent and context to proactively offer assistance, a departure from traditional chatbot interactions. This system allows users to ask Siri to perform complex actions, such as finding a specific photo based on a detailed description or summarizing lengthy emails and documents. Apple Intelligence also incorporates generative AI capabilities for text creation and image generation, with features like "Image Playground" for creating custom graphics and "Genmoji" for personalized emojis. The company emphasized privacy by processing many AI requests on-device, with more complex tasks sent to private cloud servers using "Private Cloud Compute." Apple is also partnering with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into its devices, allowing users to access its advanced language model for more complex queries, while maintaining user privacy controls. This integration aims to enhance Siri's capabilities beyond what Apple's in-house models can currently achieve, offering users a more powerful and versatile AI assistant experience.
