Apple says it may remove some apps from the App Store if they don’t attract users

Apple announced this week that it may remove existing apps from the App Store if they are deemed stale, low-value, or unable to attract users. The company stated in a developer update that apps that have not been updated in a significant amount of time and do not receive regular customer downloads may be subject to removal. This policy aims to ensure the App Store remains a vibrant marketplace with relevant and engaging applications for its users. Developers will be notified 30 days in advance of any potential removal, providing an opportunity to submit an update or ensure the app is still being downloaded. Apps that have a clear purpose, such as a child's game or a business's app, will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, even if they have not been updated recently. Apple also clarified that apps that are part of a subscription service or are used for ongoing services will not be removed. This initiative is part of Apple's ongoing efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of its digital storefront, which hosts millions of applications.
