American Airlines Resumes Service to Naples, Florida Airport

American Airlines announced this week that it will resume commercial flights to Naples Airport (APF) in Florida, a move that will bring back service from a major U.S. carrier after nearly two decades. The new service is scheduled to begin on December 2, offering a new travel option for residents in Southwest Florida. Flights will operate nonstop to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), which serves as American Airlines' second-busiest hub.

Bookings for the new Naples-Charlotte route are now open on American Airlines' website. AAdvantage members can redeem award miles for flights starting at 8,500 miles one-way. The reintroduction of commercial service follows a survey where 80% of Naples residents expressed support for bringing flights back to the local airport. The airline had previously indicated plans to operate two to three daily flights by December.

Naples Airport, located near Naples Beach, has primarily served general aviation flyers for the past decade. Prior to that, it hosted smaller regional carriers. Delta Air Lines was the last major airline to operate out of APF, ending its service nearly 20 years ago. The return of American Airlines is expected to provide a more convenient travel alternative for individuals residing south of Fort Myers, the region's primary airport, as well as for tourists and seasonal visitors to the Naples area.
