Cursor Launches CFO Council for AI ROI Measurement

AI coding company Cursor, which is set to be acquired by SpaceX in a $60 billion all-stock transaction, has launched a CFO Council. This initiative aims to develop a playbook for measuring the return on investment (ROI) of artificial intelligence (AI) spending, addressing a key concern for finance leaders. The council will convene quarterly in different cities, with its inaugural meeting scheduled for August 18 in San Francisco.

The council comprises finance leaders from both technology-forward and established companies. Newly announced members include Michael Brophy, CFO of Natera; Bea Ordonez, CFO of Payoneer; Dinesh Jain, CFO of Firstsource; Matthew Wajner, CFO of First American Bank; Ed Grabscheid, CFO of JFrog; and Andrew Casey, CFO of Amplitude. These individuals join previously announced members Sonalee Parekh, CFO of SentinelOne; Madhur Deora, CFO of Paytm; and Aziz Megji, CFO of Asana. Cursor is accepting new members on a rolling basis.

Jordan Topoleski, Cursor's COO and a key figure in developing the council, highlighted the difficulty in quantifying the tactical ROI of AI investments, a common challenge for Fortune 500 clients utilizing Cursor's agentic platform. While Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) continue to lead AI implementation, CFOs are increasingly tasked with demonstrating tangible business value from AI expenditures, such as generating $10 in business value for every $1 spent on AI.

The initiative gained momentum following a LinkedIn post by Topoleski, which generated significant interest and numerous requests for participation. Cursor assembled the council through a combination of inbound interest and direct outreach to its customer base, rather than a formal application process. The objective is to foster a cross-functional group representing diverse industries, public and private companies, and various sectors, functioning as a practical working forum.
