Google Unveils Gemini 1.5 Pro With 1 Million Token Context Window

Google announced the release of Gemini 1.5 Pro on February 15, 2024, a significant advancement in its artificial intelligence capabilities, most notably featuring a context window of 1 million tokens. This expanded context window allows the model to process and understand vastly larger amounts of information in a single prompt compared to previous iterations. For instance, Gemini 1.5 Pro can analyze up to one hour of video, 11 hours of audio, codebases with over 30,000 lines, or more than 700,000 words. This breakthrough was detailed in a blog post by Google DeepMind.

The 1 million token context window represents a tenfold increase over the 100,000 tokens offered by Gemini 1.0 Pro. This enhanced capacity is crucial for applications requiring deep comprehension of lengthy documents, extensive code repositories, or complex multimedia content. The model's architecture has been re-engineered to accommodate this larger context, utilizing a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) approach. The model's performance on standard benchmarks has been maintained or improved, even with the larger context window.
